Kick-off of the CPEDI!

Deauville’s 9th International Para-Equestrian Dressage show (CPEDI) kicked-off this Friday the 5th April, with Grade IV riders setting proceedings in motion in their Team Test - the Région Normandie Trophy.

Grade IV: The Marseillaise opens the show !

France’s Camille Jaguelin headed the 11 strong class on his long standing partner, the 15yo mare, Wimke. “It feels good  Confided a smiling Camille Jaguelin. Last year we had a premature finish to our season as the mare was injured. We’re starting this year on track. We’d have liked to have won with a bigger percentage, but it’s already a very good start for the mare to have signed her return to competition with a victory! She quickly settled and listened during the test, I’m proud of her because she’s really improved in this department.”
The 19 year old rider led in front of Britain’s Nicky Greenhill on Betty Boo (67.825%) and Nicola Naylor on Ferrari SDB (66.750%).

Grade V: Sophie Wells, untouchable.

In Grade V, we’ve all stopped counting the victories of the untouchable Sophie Wells. Competing against 11 other, the British rider yet again dominated in the Grade V Team Test – the Parc Éolien des Perrières Trophy. The Paralympic, World and European champion, had two rides in the class : C Fatal Attraction and Diadeem, with whom she was placed respectively 1st with a score of 74.651 and 3rd with 69.86%. Dutchman Frank Hosmar, the World team gold medallist, was the second rider to score over 70% riding Alphaville NOP (70.767%) claiming the second step of the podium.

Grade I: A first crown for Vladislav Pronskiy

Just after 2pm, it was the turn of Grade I riders to perform in the indoor arena at the Pôle International du cheval Longines-Deauville. Four took the start in the Team Test, the town of Villers-sur-Mer Trophy. Riding Silva Le Andro, a 14 year old gelding, the Russian Vladislav Pronzkiy distinguished himself in his first ever visit to Deauville’s CPEDI***. The 26 year old rider signed a test rewarded with a score of 68.75%. He headed the class by just a few tenths leading in front of Ireland’s Michael Murphy on Rohan, who was 2nd with 68.429%. The 3rd step of the podium went to France’s Amandine Mazzoni who was presenting her new ride, Verden d’Hanovre, for the first time in front of judges at Deauville (64.929%).

Grade III: The Netherlands, act 1

The first of two victories for the Netherlands this afternoon, thanks to, in the Grade III Team Test - the Société Générale Trophy, the performance of Yvette Overgoor. The experienced rider was bringing out her new horse, a 12year old gelding, Flynn, for her first participation at the only French CPEDI. Scoring 65.00%, she led by a few tenths in front of her compatriot, Anni Meijer on Countrymill Clarc (64.471%).

Grade II : The Netherlands, act 2!

Following Yvette Overgoor’s win, the Dutch national anthem was played for the second time in the day but this time for Nicole Den Dulk. “ I’m delighted to have won here at Deauville. It’s a lovely show, excellently organised and with a super arena to ride in. Wallace goes well here. He went admirably, just a few minor errors, but for his first competition of the season, I’m satisfied. For the last few months we’ve had a new trainer. We’ve modified a number of things in our daily routine. I’m hoping to ride good tests on Saturday and Sunday and so return home proud of ourselves. If we win, it’s a bonus ! Smiled Nicole Den Dulk. Sunday, I’m presenting the same Freestyle I rode at the last World Equestrian Games. It’ll only be the third time we’ve ridden this Freestyle”.
The Dutch rider led in front of two British riders : Lee Pearson and Georgia Wilson. Multi-medallist Lee Pearson was partnering Grandeur. He was the second rider scoring above 70% (70.121%). As for his compatriot, Georgia Wilson who was first to go in the class on Chico III, she gave the third best performance with a score of 68,167%.

Tomorrow, the Grade V riders will start the ball rolling for the individual test, and the scores obtained, combined with those of today's Team Test, will give the final ranking of the Nations Cup.
