Deauville CPEDI*** : The British set the rhythm!

High point of the weekend, the Freestyle this Sunday concluded the 7th edition of the Deauville CPEDI***. Only the best, following the first two days of competition, taking the start blocks in this final day of competition.

Unsurprisingly it was Sophie Wells (GBR) who bagged the title of best rider in the show, whilst José Letartre saw himself crowned best French rider.

GRADE V: Sophie Wells adds the Fédération Française d’Équitation Trophy to her collection!

In the saddle on C Fatal Attraction, the amazing Sophie Wells triumphed yet again with an enthralling test scoring 79.675%. A commanding win, and a hat trick for the British rider this weekend who completely dominated the Grade V. British team trainer Michel Assouline notably stated: “C Fatal Attraction has a lot of experience, he’s a horse that Sophie has trained and produced herself for the last 5 years. Her performances are the truly the result of her hard work. She’s an excellent experienced rider, and very determined. We’ve bought a new team to Deauville this year, comprised in the main from young athletes, with the exception of Sophie, who is a role model for British riders starting at this level”.
Behind Sophie, in the second slot, Italian athlete Alessio Corradini with Levinia 10 scored 69.600% and in 3rd place, Alfonsino Maldonado riding her gelding, World Champion, (69.300%). This is the first time that a rider representing Uruguay has come to this Deauville event.

GRADE IV : Isobelle Palmer, A nice composition!

Only 16 years of age, the talented Isobelle Palmer (GBR) showed her potential in the Normandy Region Trophy. After winning with Touchdown M yesterday, she repeated the feat in the Freestyle this morning, this time riding Pinocchio (73.150%).
Last to go in the class, Céline Van Till (SWI) and Amanta had to yet again content themselves with second place, scoring 70.625%.
British rider Heather Bennett was third, partnering her mare Zavailantika, improving on her 5th place yesterday.

GRADE II : Pepo Puch making his presence felt at Deauville.

In the Calvados Department Trophy (Grade II), Austrian Pepo Puch/Fontainenoir, already winners yesterday in the Individual Championship test, took hold of, and retained the lead, scoring 72.794%. The experienced Nicole Den Dulk (NED) had to make do 2nd place despite a good 68,970%. She was riding Wallace N.O.P., her KWPN gelding with whom she was part of the Bronze medal winning team at the Rio Paralympic Games.
Flying the flag for France, the experienced international competitor, Céline Gerny, was competing this weekend with her new ride, Landiro. The pair showed some very promising work for their first outing at this level, scoring 67.933% thus taking the third step on the podium in this class.

GRADE III : Gold for Dior!

The judges particularly appreciated the test of Erin Orford/Dior (GBR), rewarding it with 74.167% in the Pôle International du Cheval Trophy. Representing Great Britain, the rider climbed onto the top step of the podium thus beating Dutch competitor Rixt Van Der Host/Uniek N.O.P. (71.600%), who was a member of the Bronze medal winning team at the Rio Paralympics.
Anni Meijer, competing for Denmark on Countrymill Clarc, scored 70.003%, keeping the 3rd place that she obtained the previous day in the Individual Championship test.

GRADE I : Three wins for Sara Morganti.

In the Handi Equi’ Compet Trophy, the excellent partnership of Sara Morganti and Royal Delight brought the competition to an impressive end, scoring 74.100%, thus securing her third consecutive victory of the weekend. Also showing regularity, the only competitor representing the colours of Latvia, Rihards Snikus, kept his second place following an outstanding test with King Of The Dance obtaining the score of 73.467%.
Having taken the fourth slot on the first two days of the event, Susanna Wade/D’Artagnan, riding for Great Britain, went one better today, finishing third.

It was under the Normandy sun and to the words of the Chairman of the organising association Handi Equi’ Compet, Eric Estrier, that this event drew to a close: “Both the sporting and human sides to this edition were amazing. Everything went smoothly and according to plan thanks to an incredible team of motivated and professional volunteers. A competition without a wrong note, that makes us want to continue for at the least the next 20 years!
