7 editions, 7 British victories!

The 7th Deauville CPEDI*** kicked off yesterday at the Pôle International du Cheval! 49 competitors from 18 different nations were in the starting blocks for this major international event organised by the Handi Equi’ Compet association. Two objectives: grab a team win and one of the ten individual titles as well as obtaining a qualifying score for the Göteborg European Championship later this year.

After an exciting first day of sport, Saturday saw fierce competition in each Grade during the Individual Championship Test, as well as being the second round of the Nations Cup.

Unbeaten, Great-Britain added yet another win to their tally in the Nations Cup. The entirely feminine team of Sophie Wells, Suzanna Hext, Erin Orford and Susanna Wade cumulated 431.671 points to secure victory in front of an Italian team comprised of Sara Morganti, Alessio Corradini, Francesca Salvade and Federico Lunghi (418.514 points).
Bronze stayed in the host country, represented by José Letartre, Thibault Stoclin, Léa Sanchez and Céline Gerny who totalised 403.632 points.

Sophie Wells dominates the Grade V.

The second day of competition started by the Grade V, in the Sellerie de la Côte Trophy. Ahmed Sharbatly (RSA) had the unenviable task of being first to go on his new mare, Diadeem. A fore runner of para-equestrian dressage in the Middle-East, the rider is working hard to develop and promote this sport in this region. Despite a good score, he saw himself being relegated to the 4th and 5th slots having brought the class to a close with his second ride Whitney in the Individual Championship Test.
Second to go, the multi-medallist Sophie Wells yet again rode an extremely accomplished test on C Fatal Attraction (73,048%), taking the pole position which she conserved throughout the class, winning with a commanding lead of 3% in front of the second placed rider, the Italian Alessio Corradini riding Levinia 10 (66,810%), thus repeating the previous day’s Team Test line-up. Alfonsina Maldonado (URU) and World Champion took the 3rd place.

Isobelle Palmer unstoppable in Grade IV!

This Grade has attracted the most starters this week-end, the Région Normandie Trophy, saw 14 pairs in Deauville’s PIC arena. A superb double victory for the British, after the Grade V, Isobelle Palmer grasped and conserved the lead in Grade IV with Touchdown M (71.171%) and was also placed 3rd with Pinocchio (70.537%). In 2012, the chestnut gelding was an Individual silver medal winner at the London Paralympic Games with Sophie Wells.
The partnership of Céline Van Till and Amanta (SWI), who took part at the Rio Paralympic Games last September, were hot on their heels riding an expressive test scoring 70.732% securing them second place. Céline said after her ride: “I’m delighted with my performance, it’s without a doubt the best I’ve ever ridden at Deauville! I always really enjoy this competition.

Pepo Puch claims his crown in the Grade II!

One of the most familiar and popular faces in this discipline, Pepo Puch (AUT), riding his gold medal winning Rio Paralympic Games ride, Fontenenoir, claimed victory in the Grade II. Showing again his enormous talent, he won yet again on Normandy soil with a score of 72.794%.
His rival Nicole Den Dulk, who won the Team Test yesterday, held on to the final two places on the podium, placing Wallace N.O.P. on the 2nd step and Faust on the 3rd.

A double Italian victory!

The line up in the Grade I Individual Championship Test remained the same as in the Team Test. The partnership of the Italian Sara Morganti and Royal Delight stayed in the top slot (75.571%). On great form, she equally seized 3rd place on her second ride Ferdinand DI Fonte Abeti.
The Latvian Richards Snikus is showing great regularity with King Of The Dance. This familiar face at Deauville placed himself between the gold and the bronze.

Suzanna Hext dominates the Grade III.

The Grade III bought the second day of competition to a close. For her first visit to this competition, the British rider Suzanna Hext showed that she’s a force to be reckoned with, throwing down the gauntlet with LJT Engaards Solitaire riding a test scoring an impressive 71.088%
Silver was taking by her teammate Erin Orford with Dior (70.647%), with Anni Meijer (DEN) and Countrymill Clarc, completing the line-up thanks to a good performance (69.265%).

The curtain will come down on the three day Deauville CPEDI*** tomorrow evening. Before that of course, the Freestyle, with classes starting tomorrow at 8:30.
