Para-Equestrian Dressage returns to Deauville !

No less than 42 horses and rider combinations and 11 nations are expected for Deauville’s 10th International Para-Equestrian Dressage Competition : the CPEDI***!

The only international para-equestrian dressage show in France, the event organised by the Handi Equi' Compet association sees the biggest names in Para-Equestrian Dressage riders returning to Normandy from the 1st to the 3rd of April. If sport is at the core of this event, and which offer free entry, there will also be entertainment, including an equestrian displayby Elisa Laville.

On the cards over these three days: the Team Test on Friday April the 1st,  and the Individual Test on Saturday April the 2nd, which serve as supports for the Nations Cup, then the Freestyle on Sunday April the 3rd, where only the best riders will take the start.

Amongst those nations making the trip, Great Britain, undefeated in the Nations Cup in Deauville since 2012 and again favourites, have 7 representatives. Among them, two Paralympic Team gold medallists at the last games in Tokyo will be providing particularly fierce competition: the athlete with 30 international medals, Lee Pearson associated with Breezer (Grade II) and the multi-medallist Sophie Wells (Grade V) with her two mounts Don Cara M and Jillz Geuzenhof. The Netherlands, challengers and hot on the heels of Great Britain since 2014, will be aiming to reverse the trend in 2022. For this they will be able to count on Nicole Den Dulk, a difficult to beat contender in Grade II, but also Lotte Krijnsen who won four Grade IV classes at the CPEDI*** in Doha last February. Against them, two other teams, and not the least: France and Belgium, which has in its ranks the World number 13, Manon Claeys (Grade IV).

11 horses and riders are representing the home nation, France, a new record since the start of the CPEDI*** in Deauville!

Having returned home with a 6th place in the team competition, three of France’s four representatives at the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo will be present: Anne-Frédérique Royon (Grade I) with her faithful Quaterboy LH, Céline Gerny (Grade II) accompanied by her two mares Rhapsodie*IFCE and Belle de Jour*IFCE, and Vladimir Vinchon (Grade IV) and Fidertanz for Rosi: “For us, this is the launch of the international season and it’s extremely pleasant to be doing it in Deauville”, confided the rider from the Mayenne region. “Above all, I want to confirm the marks I have been scoring since Tokyo, i.e. above 73%. Representing my nation is always a privilege and I obviously hope that this will be the case again this weekend, if not I’ll still be present and 200% behind those who’ll be lucky enough to be selected, we’re above all a team!”

Apart from the Nations Cup, the riders will also be competing as individuals and will be competing against the best. In Grade I, the Latvian Rihards Snikus, the World number 2 and Paralympic silver medallist, is among the competitors, as is the Irish rider Michael Murphy, who is in very good form after his 3 victories at the CPEDI*** in Keysoe (Great Britain) at the beginning of March. Recently victory at Wellington in Grade II, America’s Beatrice De Lavallette will compet against Great Britain’s Lee Pearson but also France’s Cloé Mislin and Céline Gerny.

After the obligatory veterinary inspection and declarations by the team leader of their selections for the Nations Cup on Thursday the 31st of March, the competition will officially kick off on Friday April the 1st with the first rider in the arena at 8.30 am !

In addition to the dressage arena, the public will be able to admire Thomas Le Floc'H's photo exhibition at the Pôle International du Cheval Longines - Deauville, as well as attend an equestrian display given by the Normandy’s Elisa Laville, on Sunday the 3rd of April at 3pm.
