FREESTYLE : PARA-EQUESTRIAN DRESSAGE RIDERS GET INTO THE DANCE

This Sunday 7th April, it was the third and last day of competition at the 9th Deauville CPEDI***, organised by the Handi Equi' Compet association.

This Sunday 7th April, it was the third and last day of competition at the 9th Deauville CPEDI***, organised by the Handi Equi' Compet association. An event supported for a number of years by the Normandy region, as Malika Cherrière, regional counsellor, responsible for the equine sector. Explained, “ The CPEDI*** at Deauville is of importance to the area, the equine industry and sport. The French team and other national teams travel over French territory and Normandy welcomes them. Each year the region makes a huge financial effort to accompany them and make sure that this sporting event is one of the best in Europe. We work in transverse manner with the department and the local towns to ensure the continuity of Deauville’s CPEDI*** ”.
Today saw the best performing competitors riding their Freestyle tests. At only a few months from this year’s European Championships (Rotterdam, The Netherlands, August 2019), it was the opportunity for some to present their new compositions in front of the judges.
 
Grade V : Frank Hosmar reduces the gap

For the 7th year running, Great Britain’s Sophie Wells made her presence felt in the highlight of the weekend : the Freestyle. Competing against 7 others, she was rewarded with the best score riding C Fatal Attraction (78.395 %), with whom she notably successfully competed at the last World Equestrian Games. Only a few tenths in front of the Netherlands's Frank Hosmar, whose test was really appreciated by the public ! Riding Alphaville NOP, the pair who won a Team Gold medal during the last World Championships presented his new Freestyle test, certainly with the next European Championships in mind - they are taking place in the Netherlands this summer. He attained the excellent score of 77.675 % and reduced the gap between himself and his biggest rival : Sophie Wells. Russia was on the third step of the podium just like the previous day, thanks to Natalia Martyanova. She competed on Martinus HO (73.130%).
 
Grade IV : Nicky Greenhill, with Betty Boo this time !


Winner of the Individual Test with King Edward I, British rider Nicky Greenhill repeated the performance this Sunday in the Freestyle, this time with her second ride Betty Boo. For her first foreign CPEDI, the 10 year-old mare was alone in scoring over 72% with 72.875% Grade IV Freestyle - prix de la région Normandie. She was joined by two French riders on the podium : Camille Jaguelin and Adib El Sarakby. Winner the first day and 3rd yesterday, Camille Jaguelin took silver today hitting the over 70% mark with his mare Wimke, scoring 70.475%. 
Super progress with a place on the podium on the final day for Adib El Sarakby, one of the three French competitors in the starting blocks in this Grade IV, the other being Alexia Pittier. The Frenchman, making his comeback to both International competition and the French Team rode his new gelding, Walk of Fame, and was awarded a score of 68.8%.
 
Grade II : Nicole Den Dulk’s treble
In the Grade II, Nicole Den Dulk didn’t leave the pole position on the scoreboard all weekend. Sunday in the Freestyle, the Prix du département du Calvados, she beautifully bought to a close her first CPEDI of the season. Associated with her long standing ride Wallace NOP, she obtained the top score of 71.8 %. Great Britain’s Suzanna Hext equally had a good finish to her weekend, entering the top three for the first time during the competition, she was placed second on LJT Engaards Solitaire achieving 71.607%. Third rider in the same percentage (71%), the British rider Lee Pearson found himself on the third step of the podium like the previous day. He was awarded 71.393% with B Grandeur.
 
Grade III : Anni Meijer confirms !
For the second day running, the Netherlands’s Anni Meijer took control of the Grade III against her compatriot Yvette Overgoor. Partnering Countrymill Clarc, Anni Meijer broke the 70% barrier and rode a brilliant Freestyle rewarded by a 71.12%. Second place in this class, the Prix du Pôle International du Cheval Longines-Deauville, went to Yvette Overgoor who achieved 69.153% on Flynn.
 
Grade I : Russia, the apotheosis !
The National Anthem of Russia was heard in the indoor arena at the Pôle International du Cheval Longines-Deauville for the third time this weekend, thanks to Vladislav Pronskiy. The 26 year-old rider excelled in the Grade I Freestyle, the Prix de la ville de Saint-Arnoult. Associated with Silva Le Andro, he obtained the excellent score of 72.453. The rest of the top trio remained unchanged. Michael Murphy (IRL) and Dimitra Eleni Pantechaki (GRE) were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Freestyle of the Irish rider who was riding Rohan was rewarded by a 69.967%, and that of Dimitra Eleni Pantechaki by 69.233%."
