The Deauville CPEDI*** : French exceptionalism !

The only International Para-Equestrian Dressage Competition (CPEDI) to be held in France, the Deauville CPEDI*** returns to the Pôle International du Cheval Longines - Deauville from the 5th to the 7th of April, for the 9th time.

A true rehearsal for big world-wide dates, such as the European Championships which are being held in Rotterdam (the Netherlands, 19th -25th August 2019), the Deauville CPEDI*** each year welcomes the World’s elite in this discipline. Riders, classified from Grade I to Grade V depending upon their disability, take advantage of the season’s first CPEDI*** to confront the international competition,  like Cloé Mislin, a member of the French team at the World Equestrian Games held at Tryon (United-States) last summer,  who will entering the Normandy arena for the 4th time with Don Caruso. “The Deauville CPEDI is a lovely event with top organisation, fantastic facilities and lovely prizes. There’s always strong competition in the grade II and a panel of top-class judges. Right from the start of the season, the show, does or doesn’t, validate work and progress made during the winter. Last year I took part in my first international competition with Don Caruso, it remains superb memory with this wonderful horse who took me to Tryon. In 2019, my ambition, at this qualifier for the Europeans, is to surpass my 2018 performances.

Organised since 2011 by the Handi Equi’ Compet association, whose objective is to develop and promote top level para-equestrianism, France’s unique CPEDI***  is naturally held at Deauville in Normandy : Land of the horse par excellence, as Laurence Meunier, Chairwoman of the Conseil des Chevaux de Normandie explains. In addition, the Normandy Region has remained the biggest financial backer of the CPEDI since it started in 2011. “Le Conseil des Chevaux de Normandie launched “Normandie Grands Événements” (Normandy big Events) in 2018, a project which puts the spotlight on the most emblematic events held in Normandy.  Therefore bringing a para-equestrian discipline into Normandie Grands Événements was inevitable, all the more so when it’s the only International Para-Equestrian Dressage Competition held in France ! Normandie Grands Événements is renewing its’ collaboration with the Deauville CPEDI*** for a 2nd consecutive year. It’s the occasion for the best French and foreign para-equestrian dressage riders to shine during 3 days of competition, bringing their discipline to the fore, and a unique opportunity to promote Normandy, the land of horse excellence !

With the desire to further this para-sport, which is included in both the Paralympics and the World Equestrian Games,  Handi Equi’ Compet opens it’s doors to primary school pupils from neighbouring towns each year: St Arnoult and Deauville, demonstrating to the young that it’s possible to achieve excellence despite challenges faced in life. For the 1st time a conference is being held at the same time as the CPEDI – a debate on equine assisted therapy : a practice that uses the horse to help vulnerable persons (physical or mental disorders, the elderly, children in difficult circumstances...).  Topics treating the different facets of this therapy will also tackled during the evening organised on Friday the 5th of April.
